One of a kind piece - Navajo belt buckle

An incredible sterling silver belt buckle set with seven Royston turquoises (Nevada).

This piece was created by Darrell Cadman, a jeweler from a long line of Navajo artists. With this buckle, he offers a superb example of fine Navajo jewelry.

The buckle is adorned with seven turquoise stones set against an oxidized background, which highlights their brilliance. Their color displays a magnificent gradient of green, crisscrossed by delicate brown veins. Here, Cadman plays with the rich hues and patterns unique to this stone. At the center, a thin cord evokes a lasso—a recurring motif in Navajo jewelry, symbolizing the idea of mastering the stone as a living element—and is accompanied by small, smooth spheres delicately arranged around it.

At the center of the piece is an oval shape emblematic of Navajo silverwork: the concho. It is crafted using the repoussé technique, a traditional process that involves working the silver from the reverse side to create a relief on the front. This technique requires great expertise and remarkable precision to achieve a harmonious and perfectly balanced form.

Entirely hand-chiseled and stamped with a variety of motifs, the piece has been oxidized to accentuate its depth and character. It thus subtly plays on the contrasts between matte and polished silver.

It is a piece of jewelry with character—a timeless accessory with a strong presence that leaves no one indifferent.
