One of a Kind Piece - Navajo Belt Buckle
A stunning Navajo belt buckle crafted from matte sterling silver and set with two Kingman (Arizona) turquoises.
This belt buckle, paired with beautiful red leather, is made using the Tufa Cast technique, a traditional Navajo silversmithing process.
The artist takes a mold made from a volcanic stone, tufa, and divides it into two parts. One part is hand-carved with a motif of his choice, into which he pours molten silver. The second part covers this pattern and is firmly attached to the first. Once the silver has hardened, the piece is removed from the mold, creating a beautiful piece of jewelry with a raw, original look.
The buckle created here is emblematic of the silver work the Navajo people have been doing for many moons: it features beautiful moustache shapes, an iconic Navajo jewelry design.
