Pendant: Sunface on Zia cross

This lovely Zuni pendant represents two important Native symbols:

- The Zia cross: Each branch of this Zia cross is divided into 4 and represents essential elements of life: the 4 seasons, the 4 stages of life (childhood, youth, adulthood, old age), the 4 sacraments (devotion to others, pure soul, clarity of mind, solidity of body), the 4 times of day.

- Sunface: the sacred Sun Father. A symbol of life, omnipresent in Zuni creations. It is inlaid with Sleeping Beauty (Arizona) turquoise, coral, mother-of-pearl and jet.

Inlay is a Zuni jewelry technique: a composition of genuine stones, hand-cut and assembled to create a geometric or figurative pattern. The whole piece is polished to a smooth, elegant finish.
