Navajo pendant with a Kingman turquoise (Arizona) set in sterling silver.

This pendant is representative of the Applique handcraft, a well-known process in Navajo silversmithing. The traditional Applique technique includes shapes such as leaves, feathers, and flowers cut from silver sheets and then soldered onto an underlying piece.
 

On this pendant we can see the squash blossom, which is a very important element in Native culture as the squash is an essential crop.
