One of a Kind piece - Kewa ring
Stunning Kewa ring in sterling silver and 14K gold.
Joseph Coriz, an artisan from Pueblo Santo Domingo (Kewa), creates silver and gold jewelry inspired by Native American culture. His works combine sacred symbols (hand, cloud, corn) and traditional techniques such as overlay and punching. Each piece tells a story rooted in the heritage of his ancestors.
This ring features several important Native American symbols. It depicts a Pueblo village with flat houses (adobe houses), a starry sky, animals, and an ear of corn, symbolizing the harvest. The ring reflects the beliefs of the Pueblo people, where nature and its elements play a central role. Small touches of 14K gold highlight the artist's fine craftsmanship.
This magnificent ring is representative of a cutting-edge Hopi jewelry technique known as overlay: two flat pieces of the same size are interlocked. The top piece is cut out with a pattern and acts as a “stencil.” It is applied to the bottom piece, creating a silver background. This background is oxidized and scratched to create contrast between the two pieces.
