One of a Kind piece

Navajo pendant. Beautiful naja in sterling silver made with the Tufa Cast technique.

The Naja reminds the shape of the horse shoe. It's an element we commonly find as a pendant on the traditional Squash Blossom necklaces. As a talisman, the Naja gives protection.

This Naja is adorned with lightning bolts that end in arrowheads, and the center of the pendant represents an eagle's tail (a shape often represented in Native jewelry).

This designer piece is made in sterling silver, with the Tufa Cast technique, one of the oldest process used by the Navajos:

The artist takes a mold made of volcanic stone (tufa) and divises it in two parts. In the first part, he carves a design of his choice, melts silver in, and tightly covers it with the second part of the mold. Once the silver is hard, the mold eventually breaks, making this piece a unique item. This technique creates a jewel of traditional rough aspect on which we can clearly see the beautiful lumps of tufa stone.
