Beautiful Pueblo necklace, composed of three rows of Heishi beads made from Kingman turquoise (Arizona) and lapis lazuli.

The process to make Heishi beads is long and meticulous: stones, shells or other raw materials are first cut, then pierced and strung on a wire, before the artist grinds the strand on a grinding wheel to form the Heishi beads.

The quality of genuine Heishi beads can be recognized by their uniformity and smoothness to the touch.
