Beautiful Pueblo necklace, made of jet Heishi beads, a coral bead, and sterling silver beads.

The process to make Heishi beads is long and meticulous: stones, shells or other raw materials are first cut, then pierced and strung on a wire, before the artist grinds the strand on a grinding wheel to form the Heishi beads.

The quality of genuine Heishi beads can be recognized by their uniformity and smoothness to the touch.
