Jemez pottery - One of a Kind piece

This emblematic shaped pottery is a wedding pot adorned with designs made with natural pigments. It features elements of Native culture, such as the arrow and the corn plant, surrounded by beautiful geometric motifs so typical of the pottery craft from the Pueblo Jemez village.

The wedding vase is probably the most popular Native American pottery. It is a vase given to the bride and groom for their wedding. According to tradition, this pottery must be made by the groom's godmother and must be filled with water in which sacred stones have been bathed. The filled vase is then given to the bride and groom and each of them must drink through one of the two necks.

The particularity of this vase is indeed that it has two necks (representing the spouses) joined by a handle (symbolizing their union). The circle formed by these elements represents the common life of the spouses.
