How to clean and maintain your turquoise jewelry?

All HARPO's tips for the best care and preservation of all your turquoise jewelry.

Turquoise is an alumina phosphate whose hues vary from azure blue to light green depending on the amount of copper and iron it contains. With only a few deposits available in the world, this mineral is mainly found in arid zones: Iran, Mexico, United States, Afghanistan, China, Israel,... HARPO is specialized exclusively in American Turquoise. Whether to treat physical or mental ailments, the virtues of turquoise are numerous. The Amerindians considered it as a sacred stone.  The legends say that the Turquoise would be a piece of the sky fallen on Earth. It was then used to bring calm and serenity.

Highly prized by jewellers, this mineral is crumbly and the quality varies from one deposit to another. The most brittle stones are of lower quality. They need to be stabilized and are therefore more affordable. On the contrary, high quality turquoise is recognizable by its natural beauty. At HARPO, you will only find high quality turquoise.

Whether you are a very careful person with your jewellery or you prefer to have them with you every day, turquoise is THE stone par excellence. Take care of your turquoise jewelry, and you will keep a stone in good condition. Or on the contrary, let your Amerindian turquoise jewels live, wear them, wear them out and you will enjoy a stone that tells your story, that changes color and a silver that takes on a patina. It is all the beauty of this mineral that will reveal itself over time.

How to store and arrange your turquoise jewelry?

For the most careful of you, the ideal place to store your turquoise jewelry is in your jewelry box! HARPO offers you a storage pouch with each piece of jewelry. This fabric pouch will protect your turquoise ring, turquoise necklace or any other silver and turquoise jewelry. The whole thing is to keep your turquoise in a dry place, away from moisture. And if you don't want to worry about storing your jewelry, no worries! Simply store them in your drawer.

Does the turquoise clean itself?

No need to follow the advice that abounds on the internet. Turquoise does not get dirty and it is strongly advised against using chemicals to clean a turquoise jewelry Native American. Only a chamois is useful to clean silver in case of oxidation. This appears when it comes into contact with certain types of skin or when the silver jewelry is not worn enough. If, on the contrary, you prefer a stone that lives in contact with you, then don't worry about these tips and let your jewelry age naturally. HARPO will always be there if you need help with its care.

Can you shower with a turquoise jewel?

As mentioned before, water and humidity are not recommended. This mineral from dry and arid environments will absorb liquids and chemical products (water, soap, cream, ...) and the colour will be altered. In order to best preserve your turquoise Native American jewellery, we advise you to remove it when you wash your hands, do sports, shower or swim. Remember that a stone that has turned green can no longer become blue.

Moreover, water is strongly discouraged because the Amerindians set the turquoise stones on sawdust to absorb shocks and thus protect the stone. However, if water were to infiltrate under the stone, the wood would swell and the turquoise could become loose.
