One of a Kind piece
Pueblo necklace made of Heishi beads going from white to brown shades shells and a couple of turquoise Heishi beads, with a beautiful Zuni inlay pendant.
This triangular pendant is a nice representation of Zuni's inlay skills, which consist in composing a design and geometrical shapes by cutting and assembling turquoise, stones and other shells. We can see here a "blue bird" resting on a branch inlaid of black-jet and turquoise, framed by an inlay of mother-of-pearl, coral, melo shell and "black pen" shell. The whole is fixed on a black-jet plate and it is polished, for a refined and elegant result.
The Heishi handcraft is a long and meticulous process: First, rough-cut stones or shells are drilled and then strung on a wire, after which the artist holds both ends of the strand and carefully draws the beads back and forth across a grinding wheel or other rough surface to shape the Heishi beads.
Dimensions of the pendant (H x w): 3,6cm x 2,2cm
Necklace length (including clasp): 60,5cm (24 inches)
Clasp in sterling silver.
