Hand-carved and hand-painted Kachina made by Wilmer Keye (Hopi artist who has been working since his 13 years old).

This Kachina is called Crow Mother. She is the mother of the kachinas, guiding and protecting them all. She carries corn cobs in a basket and wishes the best for everyone.

The artist has carved her with precision in cottonwood. Each detail is finely chiseled: admire the feathers that frame her face, or the details of her fingers and the basket she holds in her hands, down to the fringes of the outfit that falls on her feet.
 

The Kachinas (Katsinas) are incarnations of the spiritual form, they are supernatural beings who make the link with the divine. During certain ceremonies, dancers incarnate them and they appear to the Natives while dancing and singing, under physical forms mixing animal features and abstract figures.
