

Hand-woven Yei cushion case handmade by the Zapotec tribe.
In Navajo's mythology, the "Yei" are supernatural entities who were on Earth before humans. When humans arrived, the Yei gave them useful advices in many fields, before leaving forever.
The Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca area (Mexico), known as "people of the clouds" raise sheep, hand card, spin their wool and dye the yarn using colorfast vegetal, mineral or insects and aniline dyes. Using time-honored traditions dating from 500 B.C, they hand-weave each pillow creating unique designs ranging from traditional to contemporary.
Today, these 100% wool pillow case are hand-woven on an upright pedal loom.
