One of a Kind piece - Hopi Handcraft

Artist: Harrison Jim Sr

This pottery is made thanks to the ancestral coil process: multiple coils of different length are overlaid to create the entire piece, which is then smoothen and fired in an hand-crafted single use oven.

What makes this pottery exceptionnal is the meticulous carving work made by Harrison Jim Sr, in which we can notably see a beautifuly detailed Eagle Dancer.

The Eagle Dance is a famous ceremonial during which the Eagle Dancer performs a choregraphy that represents the movements of the eagle flying and hunting. The eagle is a very important wild animal in Native culture. It is believed to have superpowers, such as controlling the rain and communicating with the gods.

    • Unisex One of a Kind piece
Navajo pendant. Double Naja pendant in mat silver with ends in hand shape.
This pendant is made with the Tufa Cast technique, one of the oldest processes used by the Navajos:
The artist takes a mold made of volcanic stone (tufa) and divises it in two parts. In the first part, he carves a design of his choice, melts silver in, and tightly covers it with the second part of the mold. Once the silver is hard, the mold eventually breaks, making this piece a unique item. This technique creates a jewel of traditionnal rough aspect on which we can clearly see the beautiful lumps of tufa stone.
The Naja pendant reminds the horse shoe shape and is on many Navajo necklaces as a talisman for protection.
