Handmade mat silver Navajo bracelet using the Ingot Work technique, stamped with traditional patterns on the inside and outside, and set with a superb Royston turquoise (Nevada)
The Ingot Work is one of the original processes of Navajo silversmithing: the artist is making the piece from A to Z, starting by melting the silver in order to create an ingot. This ingot will be rolled and shaped as a slab of silver, to his/her prefered thickness. After that, the slab is ready to make a jewel out of it.

Squash Blossom necklace in sterling silver, set with beautiful Morenci turquoises (Arizona).
The different elements of this necklace shows it is a masterpiece: Each bead is made out of two little domes soldered to make a sphere. The settings of the stones are handmade one by one, depending the shape of the turquoise they circle. In the same way, the naja (central pendant) is tailor made.
The Naja reminds the shape of the horse shoe and is considered as a talisman.
For many moons, the Squash Blossom is one of the signature jewels of the Natives of the South West. The different tribes making this traditionnal piece, such as the Navajo, the Zuni or the Hopi, value it deeply. It is worn, forever and until now, by both men and women in rituals and festivities.

Navajo bracelet handcrafted with the Tufa Cast technique.
Tufa Cast is one of the oldest process used by the Navajos:
The artist takes a mold made of volcanic stone (tufa) and divises it in two parts. In the first part, he carves a design of his choice, melts silver in, and tightly covers it with the second part of the mold. On this bracelet we can clearly see the arrows, symbol of protection.
Once the silver is hard, the mold eventually breaks, making this piece a unique item. This technique creates a jewel of traditionnal rough aspect on which we can clearly see the beautiful lumps of tufa stone.
