The Squash Blossom

The Squash Blossom

One of the most characteristic jewels from the Southwest Indians. The “Squash Blossom” necklace which signifies “Squash Flower” has very important value in the eyes of different ethnicities that make the necklace like the Navajos, Zunis and the Hopis.

A traditional jewel

Initially, the Squash Blossom was worn by men but over the years, women have also adopted it. It is worn for grand ceremonies and can be associated with other silver or turquoise necklaces.

An Amerindian legend says that originally, young girls who were about to get married, received the Squash Blossom from their mother, therefore allowing it to be passed on from generation to generation.

The Squash Blossom, a jewel in vogue

Today, having become a key fashion accessory in the Amerindian jewelry universe, the Squash Blossom has found its place in the general fashion universe as well. Often used by the fashion houses or fashion magazines to showcase their bohemian, chic hippy or rock collections, the Squash Blossom has proved to all that it can be associated perfectly with our day-to-day outfits. It can be worn in summer to refine a pretty light dress or in winter by associating it with a denim shirt or a long sleeved top.

Harpo is proud, thanks to its collection, to propose quality models, all made by artists who respect the ancient traditions.
